Apr 14, 2016 10:40 AM

Rookie Trevor Story capped his amazing first week in the majors by hitting his seventh home run Sunday and helping the Rockies beat the Padres 6-3.

In doing so, Story set the Major League record for home runs in a team's first six games of a season, ahead of Larry Walker (6, 1997), Mike Schmidt (6, 1976) and Willie Mays (6, 1964), according to Elias Sports Bureau research.

"It has been fun so far," Story said.

Dodgers Lose No-Hit Bid, Then Game To Giants

Apr 14, 2016 10:40 AM

The Dodgers lost a game on Friday night that was destined to be remembered for a long time.

Dodgers starter Ross Stripling, in his major league debut, was removed from Friday’s game against the Giants in the eighth inning of a potential no-hitter. He had just reached the 100-pitch mark by walking Angel Pagan with the Dodgers leading 2-0.

The next batter, Trevor Brown, tied it for the Giants with a home run off reliever Chris Hatcher, and the Giants won it 3-2 in the 10th on a home run from Brandon Crawford.

Utley Rule Overturns Call To Give Rays Win

Apr 6, 2016 7:46 AM

Major League Baseball's new "Chase Utley rule" loomed large in the Tampa Bay Rays' win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.

With the bases loaded and one out in the ninth inning, Edwin Encarnacion hit a grounder to third. After taking a throw from Evan Longoria for the force at second, Logan Forsythe made an errant relay to first that appeared to allow the go-ahead run to score for the Blue Jays.

Kevin Cash asked for a replay review, claiming Jose Bautista violated the so-called "Utley rule" governing slides on potential double plays.

Replay umpires in New York ruled Bautista's slide was not directly into the bag and that it illegally hindered Forsythe. The call was changed to a game-ending double play that preserved Tampa Bay's victory.

"It turned the game into a joke," John Gibbons said. "That's flat embarrassing. That cost us a chance to win a major league game."
